What is a Multi-Axis Load Cell?
A multi-axis load cell is a precision force sensing device designed to measure multiple forces and moments at the same time using a single transducer. Unlike conventional load cells that measure force along just one axis, multi-axis models capture complex force interactions, making them essential for advanced testing, robotics, aerospace, and research applications. By providing simultaneous measurements, they allow engineers and researchers to better understand load distribution, structural behavior, and dynamic forces in real-world environments.
LCS primarily supplies two common types of multi-axis sensors. The first is the 3-axis force sensor, which measures forces along the Fx, Fy, and Fz directions, offering complete three-dimensional load data. The second is the 2-axis load cell, which can measure forces in the Fx and Fy directions, or in some configurations, measure both thrust (Fz) and torque (Mz). This versatility allows users to select the most suitable model for their specific application, whether it’s for precision manufacturing, robotics control, or structural testing.
The standard output from LCS multi-component load cells is an analog millivolt signal, linearly related to the applied force. For users requiring easier system integration, LCS also provides multi-channel signal conditioners capable of delivering 0–5V, 0–10V, 4–20mA, RS485, or RS232 outputs. This flexibility ensures compatibility with a wide range of data acquisition systems. In addition to standard products, LCS offers custom-made solutions for 3-DOF load cells, ensuring that even highly specialized requirements can be met. With their precision engineering, adaptability, and robust output options, LCS multi-axis load cells provide accurate, reliable measurement solutions for industries and laboratories worldwide.
