What is a shear beam load cell?

Shear beam load cells are weigh cells that measure weight by converting shear distortion into measurable mV signal that is proportional to the applied force/load. As the name suggests, shear beam load cells work as simple cantilever beams with one end fixed and the other end floating for loading, the floating end will bend slightly when force or weight is applied, the deformation is then detected by a Wheatstone bridge consisting of strain gauges which are bonded to an elastomer made from stainless steel or alloy steel.

Shear beam load cells offer excellent lateral force resistance, robust design with protection rating up to IP68, temperature compensation and high accuracy, making them one of the major categories of weigh cells commonly found in the field of industrial weighing. They are often used in combination, connected in parallel and placed under each corner of the weighing structure, such as platform scales, hopper and tank weighing systems, pallet truck scales, belt conveyors, and so on.

LCS supplies single ended beam load cells with rated capacities from 200kg to 10t with reliable quality and competitive price, which makes them a popular choice for medium capacity weighing applications.
