What Is a Planar Beam Load Cell?

A planar beam load cell is a compact force and weight sensing device that utilizes strain gauges bonded to a flat spring element. The sensing structure typically consists of a rectangular beam with four mounting holes on one side and a central loading point on the other, creating a winged beam configuration that delivers excellent sensitivity and measurement stability. While a single unit can be used for force measurement, planar beam load cells are commonly installed in sets of three or four beneath a platform to create a complete weighing system.
